The Dutch organist, harpsichordist, conductor, and director of the Amsterdam Baroque Orchestra, Ton Koopman has been at the forefront of the early music movement for more than 4 decades. As well as regularly appearing throughout the world as a soloist and director of the ABO Ton frequently is asked to conduct modern symphony and chamber orchestras.
In May he was in Chicago to conduct a program of Rebel, C.P.E. Bach, and Haydn with the CSO and Yo-Yo Ma. While he was in town he stole away from his duties at the CSO for an afternoon to come and take a very special open rehearsal with Baroque Band.
It was an incredible afternoon and enjoyed by players and donors alike, as you will see from the photo gallery below. Ton directed the Band in Works by Telemann and Handel, offering insights and thoughts on this wonderful music and as one of the players remarked afterwards “that was truly awesome, playing with a lifelong hero…”
